We acknowledge that ASIA in Victoria operates on the traditional, ancestral, and unceeded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, today known as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, whose enduring relationship with these lands and waters continues to this day.
As members of diverse Asian diasporas living within the Capital Regional District, we recognize that our presence on Vancouver Island is shaped by histories of migration, displacement, and settlement that render us, in many ways, uninvited guests on these lands. We hold this awareness with humility and responsibility.
At the same time, we affirm our shared commitment to learning from and alongside Indigenous communities, and to nurturing a deep respect for the land, water, and all living beings. We understand stewardship not as ownership, but as a collective obligation—one that asks us to care for these territories with intention, reciprocity, and accountability.
In recognizing that we are temporary caretakers, we commit to contributing to a future that is just, multicultural, and rooted in solidarity—one where diverse communities can live in right relationship with one another and with the natural world.
